A CME workshop on “How to write an effective grant proposal- A step by step approach” was conducted at Prime Institute of Public Health on November 10, 2016 by Dr. Durdana Khan. Dr. Durdana Khan earned her Master degree from Ohio State University (USA), and is currently an assistant professor at Peshawar Medical College. She is also a faculty member with Prime Institute of Public Health.
Participants of the workshop were enrolled from different backgrounds that included professors of medical schools and postgraduate students.
Dr. Durdana described approaches to an effective grant writing, highlighting different funding agencies and their processes of selecting proposals. She also described multiple lacunae in grant proposal writing which may lead to failure in getting attentions of funding agency. She pointed out that building relationship with funding agency plays a pivotal role in successful grant writing. Different methods were explained for successful communication and linkages with funding agencies.
Case scenario and hands on practice for writing an effective proposal were also included in the session.
Mr. Ahmed Ali Nauman, a program officer at Prime Foundation shared his practical experiences with the audience and highlighted different challenges that are usually faced during grant writing. He also provided a list of do’s and don’ts about writing an effective grant.
The participants acknowledged the efforts made throughout the session and the importance of this session in their academic and research career. At the end of the session, CME certificates of participation were distributed among the participants.
